It seems I’m not the only one

I found this article on the Guardian website a couple of days ago. There is a growing realisation that the word “sustainability” is not working, so what do we replace it with?

I think we need to stop looking for a magic word or phrase. A million academics have spent 25 years trying to define sustainability, and they are still arguing in circles with each other, and will probably will for all of eternity, so why join them? I reckon the problem is that sustainability is not something that can be neatly described like a bar of soap or the larynx of the dung beetle. It’s not an activity like cooking a pavlova or the mating rituals of Chihuahua dogs and it’s not even a goal like finding a cure for cancer.

So what the hell is sustainability?
